The purse awaiting Kell Brook after his battle with Carson Jones on Saturday will be modest compared to the one which he lost when injury robbed the Sheffielder of a world title shot.

The foot fracture which prevented him from his attempt on Devon Alexander’s IBF belt hit him hard in the pocket. And that has only upped his general frustration – a feeling he intends to vent on Jones in Hull.guaranteed rent

“The biggest pay day I’d ever had was on the cards” said Brook. “Me and the Mrs had been looking at houses; everything was going to fit into place” said the Grenoside welterweight.

“But I was counting my chickens before they hatched. It was just one of the frustrations which spurs me on. I am turning the negative into a positive and will be taking it out on Carson Jones’ big head.”

It is every bit as much a needle match as last time they boxed.

“Apparently he has been saying he’ll be doing this, that and the other to me. Jones is going to be in a lot of pain.” The fight is at catchweight, but despite some indications, Brook is in no rush to move up to light middle.guaranteed rent

“Until I say I’m moving up – and that will be quite a long time – I’ll stay at welterweight. There are mouth-watering fights in that division.”

Chief among those, before Brook can tangle with IBF title holder Alexander, is three weight champion Shane Moseley.

Jones, though, refuses to be overlooked and felt he finished the stronger in his battle with Brook a year ago. “I had Kell in all kinds of problems but he got away with it” said Jones. “I took four or five rounds to get started, but as soon as I did it was popping. This time I’ll be on him from the start and there will be no escape route for him this time. I want that World title shot as much as he does. Everybody made excuses saying he had stamina problems – he didn’t. He had a Carson Jones problem. I was pressing him, hitting him with clean shots, I broke his nose in the eighth round and from then on it was pretty much my fight.

“He’s never had anybody up in his face before, and he didn’t know how to react to it. He looked scared to me.”
