Two England cricket captains have been getting closely involved in overseas property investment and are taking advantage of the rental market.

2005 Ashes winning captain Michael Vaughan, who made his Test debut for England in 1999 before going on to lead his country 51 times, has two villas on the Royal Westmoreland golf resort in Barbados and is now selling one for an asking price of £928,000.

The villa has been rented out for Vaughan, who now is part of the BBC Test Match commentating team, at £1,070 per night in high season and £650 a night in low season.

The 2,520 sq ft detached property has a large family size pool and borders the golf course. An open plan kitchen, dining and living room lead directly onto a wide balcony on the upper floor, from which cooling breezes and stunning views over the resort can be enjoyed.

The three en-suite bedrooms are located on the lower level. Other features include high vaulted pickled pine ceilings with ceiling fans, shell stone floors, coral stone finish on the interior walls, double car parking and golf buggy parking facilities.

Owners have access to the world class amenities on the Royal Westmoreland estate such as the award winning golf course, tennis, gymnasium and beach club at nearby Mullins Beach.

Current England cricket captain, Andrew Strauss has invested in a property at the Freedom Bay Eco Resort in St Lucia.

Strauss is also setting-up The Andrew Strauss Cricket Academy on-island which aims to benefit the local community by providing quality coaching and cricketing facilities for St Lucians.

Strauss said: “I absolutely love St Lucia and can’t wait until I can spend some time with my family relaxing and soaking-up some Caribbean sun at my holiday home once it is completed. I am even happier in the meantime that my investment is safe and bringing me a decent return.”

Freedom Bay is an eco-luxury resort development with prime real estate located within a UNESCO World Heritage site at the foot of the Pitons and will include the first Six Senses international branded five star hotel in the Caribbean.

St Lucia stacks-up well for property investors with no capital gains tax or inheritance tax and very low income taxes. There is a stable government with law based on the UK system and freehold ownership with Land Registry.

Whole ownership hotel villas start from £880,000 for a one bedroom villa and rise to £1.3 million for a two bedroom villa.
